About

I work as a senior lecturer in the School of Business and Management at Queen Mary, University of London, where I have completed my PhD. I have a BSc degree in Sociology and MA degree in Political Sciences. Prior to my doctoral study, I also worked in a women’s NGO in Turkey. My research interests are in the field of equality and diversity with a particular focus on multilevel exploration of agentic power and strategies of the key actors in the field, intersectionality of inequalities, disadvantage and privilege in organisational settings, diversity management, agency and change in organisations, and inequality and discrimination in employment. My work has been published in edited collections, practitioner and policy outlets and peer reviewed journals such as Academy of Management Review, British Journal of Management, Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Human Relations and International Journal of Management Reviews, . I have co-authored (with Mustafa Ozbilgin) a research monograph, Global Diversity Management.

I am a strong believer of empirical research for advancing theory and policy. My recent research includes two Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) funded projects on 'Developing a Diagnostic Check for Equality' and on 'Opening up Opportunities through Private Sector Recruitment and Guidance Agencies'; a research project on 'Work Placement Practices within the Creative and Cultural Industries', which was funded by the Arts Council England; and a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) sponsored quantitative investigation of the state of diversity management practices in the UK. I am currently undertaking an empirical study on work experiences of LGBT individuals in Turkey.

As a sociologist I am also keenly interested in Bourdieu’s theory, feminist studies, critical social theory and critical realism. Please do get in touch for possible collaborative work or if you want any further information on my research.
