About

I am a young, innovative Biomaterials Scientist with a good understanding of clinical, chemical, mechanical and materials aspects of biomaterials. I have a strong interdisciplinary background, since I have degrees in both clinical Dentistry (BDS) and Materials Science (MSc and PhD). This rare combination allows me to apply my knowledge of materials science from a clinical perspective in order to develop novel materials with appropriate clinical properties.

I have experience of developing novel biomaterials for clinical applications in Medicine and Dentistry. My research interests include formulating Glass Polyalkenoate cements for use as bone cements, dental restorative materials and chemical anchors for construction. I am also keen on investigating the effects of ultrasound on Glass Polyalkenoate Cements (and similar cements) in order to improve their mechanical properties and to enhance the release of therapeutic ions from these materials. I am also interested in developing glass-polymer composite type biomaterials.

I have maintained a good track record of publishing my work in peer-reviewed journals. I have also been successful in obtaining research funding for consultancy projects with industrial partners (Dental/Biomaterials manufacturers).
